Muir College

What are the pros and cons?

I don't know! But I got into it:

On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of the University of California, San Diego – congratulations on your admission to Muir College as a major in Pre-Math-Computer Science! UC San Diego is one of the nation's premier universities and we look forward to welcoming you to our campus.

Did you?

Go fellow Muir-ans :]

Pros: Fantastic location on campus, good food, BEST easiest GE's!
Cons: Dorms are old-ish and have lotttts of triples.

p.s. Muir is considered the 'best' college by many. Congratulations!

Yes! And I'm so excited! I'm a general bio major.

If I sent my housing info in today, do you think I have a good chance at getting a double?

Yeah, I choose it because of the easy GE's =).

Dude I'm excited!!! UCSD is my 3rd choice.

Do you think I have a chance at UCSB if I got into UCSD?

UCSD is harder to get into, so you'll probably get into UCSB.
Congrats everyone!

Ah! Really!!! UCSB is my second choice! haha

I hope you're right!

I am not in Muir, tho I have visited Muir dorms. I personally think they are nice. Muir is situated closer to the University Center which is very convenient, plus our almighty SunGod resides in Muir :D.

The dorm buildings are TALL so the upper dorms get verrrrry nice views of the Ocean.

BTW konkai, with your major, I would DEFINITELY recommend going to UCSD. Being a bio-related major myself, Bio majors get all the resources in the world and its very easy to get involved in Bio-related programs here. Good luck with your decision.

Yay Muir.

I'm still not sure if I'm going to attend or not.

Hurrah for Muir! I picked it for the GEs, though not because I though they were the easiest, but what was most like what I want to do classes-wise. Also, I liked the area and that I could have a view of the ocean.

Oh man! I'm so excited... just hope that I can find a way to afford this.
OoPurestOo: I have a few questions now, but I'll probably have a ton more!
How long does it take to walk to the beach? Is it hard to get into the honors program? Would I be able to do research in Scripps as a prospective marine biologist? Is there one on one time with professors?

Ahhh I'm getting really excited! haha And I'm not sure if I would even go here but I'm still excited!

konakai: Ya, I think FAFSA pretty much screwed everyone this year. My EFC is like 1/4 of my parents total income. We're definitely going to have to get at least one loan, and that's if I get all of the scholarships I applied for.

It didn't screw me. My EFC is less than $3K. =)

But I don't want to take out any loans so I've been applying for tons of scholarships.

^ So am I, but it'll still not be enough...

Dress up like a hobo and stand on street corners every Saturday for a few hundred weeks. =)

I am so confused by UCSD's posted stats... I thought admissions rate is 37.5%, but in the .pdf for Muir it says:
"Congratulations on being admitted to UC San Diego and John Muir College.
Your outstanding academic record places you in select company: John Muir College
received more than 14,000 applications for the 650 places in next year’s entering class."

So of the 40-50k applicants, 14000 applied to muir and only 650 got it? ... I am kinda confused. But yay congrats everyone :)
