Muir Dorm Life

how much extra storage do you recommend bringing? like plastic bins and things like that.
I see a ton of them at target and bed bath and beyond, but is there going to be space to store them it and is it necessary?
thanks!

What are you doing up at 3am writing a paper for? It should be done at a reasonable hour giving you plenty of time to revise it. :P

I only had one storage bin thing. But I brought very few things with me to school. What I would do is buy a few and save the receipt so if you dont use it, you can always just return it

For guys

 1. We never had any conflicts with the 2 showers/2 sinks for the 9 of us. Granted, some of the guys in my suite did not shower very often.
 2. We were given medium sized wardrobes that had a decent amount of space. It was enough for me since I dont have that much clothes. Some girls thought that the closets were a bit small for what they brought.
 3. I brought 12 notebooks (reason being that I would use 4 notebooks for 4 classes per qtr). I ended up using only 5 since some of the classes did not really facilitate notetaking so I was able to combine 2-3 classes into one 100 page spiral notebook. I recommend bringing A LOT of printer paper since Muir Writing requires quite a lot.
 4. Hair dryer (it sucks trying to sleep w/ wet hair), earplugs, water filter pitcher, a backup disk drive (in case your laptop crashes on you as youre doing a paper overnight), printer.

hope this helps!

about the storage bins, i brought one i knew i would use. then as i moved in, i decided i needed one more so i went to get it when muir did its beginning of the year target trip. they got some of the campus shuttles and took people to target to get stuff during welcome week. it was super convenient and my roomies and i got to bond over it:)

@ kings, no worries, by 3 am I’m almost always in the revision stage of the paper  hahahaha

ugh, i signed up for an apartment and now i’m kinda regretting it…
anyone know what the chances are of NOT getting my first choice?

^Why don’t you call housing and tell them that? i’m sure they could switch you, assignment don’t come out for a long time

It’s ok. I have been known to finish papers 10 minutes before they’re due. You could tell which people in our suite were in Warren Writing because they were the people who were still up at 5am. :)

Haha. I don’t think that would have worked in Muir.

My MUIR50 paper was something like 35 pages long by the end of it–but over half the bulk of it were “annotated bibliographies” that took up a page each.

^Oh god that’s terrible. We had a reader that contained everything we used for the class so we didn’t even need a bibliography until our last paper where it was optional to include outside sources.

Well, in Tenaya, you COULD get an ocean view, but it’s pretty limited (I lived in a suite that had one). It’s normally in the single when you first enter the suite (in the 40s, that’s where I was), and it is ONLY on the sides with 30s (not sure about this) and 40s that the common area between the two suites get a view of the ocean… it’s not great but you see get to see the ocean and and sunset and sunrise and all that good stuff. It doesn’t take much to just walk out of the suite and go to the little balcony to see the sun set. Depending on how far above the ground you are you may get to see the ocean, there ARE trees though, I was on the 5th floor and saw the ocean. Not sure about the view on 2-3 floors (definitely know 1st can’t see it)

Pretty much from the 4th floor on, you can see the ocean from your suite lounger if your in the 30s 40s 70 or 80s suite. The higher up you go, the better the view.

What kind of shower caddy should I buy?
Something like this?
[Walmart.com: Mainstays Shower Caddy, Lime: Bath](http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Shower-Caddy-Lime/14205546)

or this?
[Walmart.com: Family Shower Caddy: Furniture](http://www.walmart.com/ip/Family-Shower-Caddy/11091077)

Thanks in advance!

Definitely the first one. You’ll want to keep it in your room when you’re not using it, or other people will use your stuff. Plus the second one would get gross sitting in the shower like that, I donno it would make me uncomfortable

yeah, I bought the exact same one as the first one, except in red.

Thanks alot guys!! (:

yess bring a printer

how about a mini fridge or microwave? Is there space in dorm room?

Theres a common microwave for everyone to use in the kitchenette, so I wouldnt waste space by bringing one. But a mini fridge is a must. You’ll want to keep snacks and drinks in your room so you dont always have to go to a dining hall or market anytime you want to eat
