I was admitted into John Muir College (Fall Quarter 2006) for Philosophy and i was just wondering what the inside of the dorms were like; I wasnt able to attend “admit day”. I know the outside of the dorms dont have the greatest reputation, but how are they on the inside? Any pictures would be greatly appreciated. Also, i know Muir is closest to the beach and a couple dining areas- Sierra Summit et cetera, but is there anything else worth noting that is near Muir?

You can check out Muir College housing and room layouts here: http://www.hds.ucsd.edu/muir/ and the other colleges: http://hds.ucsd.edu/housing/location.html

Thanks. Any more responses would be appreciated. Especially pictures if possible.

Don't have any pictures of the inside but i can guess the dimension since i did see them. they are about 15 x 15 or 14 x 14, something to that measure. they also have like a "study room" on both ends of the "house". level has 2 bathrooms, and like a little living room in the middle. what is also very very GOOD about muir is that it is right next to the rec. center (i think). the rec. center has 2 SAND volleyball courts, like 5 nice tennis courts, a really big field (soccer?), indoor swimming pool, basketball gym, gymastics on the 2nd level and also excercise gym, and another gym (i saw people doing some fighting with swords wearing all black).

The word going around is that the Muir residence halls are being rennovated over the summer anyway, so describing them right now may be futile since it may change by the time Freshmen move in.

If you are interested, however, here's a link for the pictures:

Also, Muir, as explained by Liux43, is located conventiently next to the rec center along with Rimac, the largest gymnasium in UCSD. Here's some more information about that in case you're interested:

Thanks. Also, how far exactly is Muir from the beach. Would you be able to walk there in under 10 minutes. (I am an OOS-er: NY) If i wanted to get into surfing, is the walk short enough so that i could just carry the surfboard the whole time there, or would i most likely need to take a shuttle ( if they have one) down to the beach.

You can walk there (no doubt), but I think it would be easier to take the shuttle. My friends said that it's around a 15 minute walk or so from the La Jolla Coves.

it's walking distance.
