Whos Going? I cant believe WASHU will pay for thousands of prospective students to come to campus in April. Is this for all students offered admission or just a select few? Is it worth it to accept the invitation and go even though you have visited WASHU already?

well if you look on the website ([Celebration Weekend](http://admissions.wustl.edu/celebration/Pages/default.aspx)) it says its for only admitted students so i assume its only for a few thousand at most. And even then, i don’t think every single admitted student is going to go.
And why wouldn’t you go? It’s a free vacation and you can see WashU when school’s in session if you visited in the summer.

I’m hoping to go assuming I have the time to visit (I’m planning to visit another university around the same days as well).

So anybody can go? You don’t have to be a minority? I only ask because I can’t see my invitation on my pathway, and I woud really like to go.

I’m going! Is there anyone who’s planning on going, flying out of LGA?

@vinnytest

It should be the second bullet on your pathway “Inbox” page, but if you need the link here it is: [Celebration Weekend](http://admissions.wustl.edu/celebration/Pages/default.aspx)

do you have to commit to WUSTL if you go?

I doubt that they will make you commit if you go. I think the Celebration Weekend is to let accepted students see what the environment is like before making their final decision.

Oh gosh, I really want to go, but I’m already missing school for the finalist weekend and I doubt my school will let me miss any more for the same university. Fingers crossed!

No commitment required. Go, see and make your decision. That’s the purpose of the visit.

Is it the same as Spring Preview? That is the only link I can find on my Pathway. I also don think Wash U would pay for ED applicants because we ate already committed. I didn’t find any info that said they would pay for my travel to go to Spring Preview.

My son has a conflict with Caltech (or Princeton?) and this event, but the offer does say they would pay for a trip out anytime before April 26th as long as they have a three week notice. That’s a big budget if they offer this free travel to all admitted students!

My son got an email from WU today about the visit.

It’s different. Spring Preview is like a whole month while Celebration Weekend there is some special activities and stuff like that.

It’s because they have a relatively large endowment and they are all stingy about giving financial aid since they’re need aware… At least that’s my theory.

Celebration Weekend is more for minorities (regardless of URM and ORM).

WUSTL places great emphasis on attracting students they want. In fact, compared to other schools such as HYPSM, they are often viewed by their students as more caring. WUSTL does a great job catering to it’s students needs. They try to make you feel happy (hence why when you walk around, the students are so happy there). WUSTL is really good at being student oriented. That’s why they have so much money. They want to put it toward taking care of you, even if you are not enrolled yet.

@onecot EDer here, got an invite…i think asianginger got one too

I am an EDer, and also got an invite to Multicultural Weekend.

I’m an Eder and got an invite. But I don’t understand how they decide who to invite.

My theory is they offer to an equal number of students in different cultures; american, european, asians, africans, easteners, spanish, and so on. Since its not only for RD admitees, I guess it is to show more of WASHU to new and hopefully new freshman.

Yep, ED as well. And from some of the discussion in the facebook group, it definitely seems like it’s for minority students. But I think that Wash U will pay for RD students to visit during the Spring Preview, and while ED students were invited, I don’t think the expenses are covered. At least, that’s what I’ve gathered.

I would rage if they didn’t pay for ED kids. But WashU has a big pot of money and decided to be nice and pay for us. :D
