I just got an invitation to the Multicultural Recruitment Committee Open house at Columbia, and it looks like a great thing to do, since I still need to do an "official" visit (I stayed on campus for a 10-day program, and I live in NJ so it's not a hard trip or anything). My question is, is this, judging by the name, intended to be for minority/multicultural students, or does it just mean multicultural as in everybody? I am not a minority and as far as I know I never said otherwise on any kind of form.

It didn't say anything about being a minority as far as I know. I'm Indian, and I'm going. If you're asking about Caucasians, I don't know. I think it's a normal open house with an emphasis on the multiculturality of Columbia. Otherwise it would mention minorities somewhere, wouldn't it? Call and find out.

About that 10-day program, was it on business? I think my friend went to that as well.

I'm going, I'm hispanic... but it doesn't specify race or ethnicity on the invitation. Does anyone know how many people go to this??

I dunno, but if it's an overnight program, it's worth doing. IMHO, that's the absolute best way to get a sense of the atmosphere at a college, is staying overnight where the admissions office can't prepackage everything.

I don't think you need to be a urm to go. I'm Indian and I got invited and am going. It's not overnight though as far as I can tell...I believe it is all day or something though.

Yeah, My confirmation email said it was from 11-5, i think ...on the 10th.
