Woot! haha, I just came across the 2008 thread an thought we might as well start an '09 thread because a lot of people seem to have questions about this....

So, if you want to chat about this, post here. Apparently, those invited will get info in the mail around February 25th. This is like an unofficial acceptance I am assuming, though I wonder if an official packet with information is included.....any veterans with knowledge are welcome to post as well!

Furthermore, who is invited? I'm Native American, would this mean a possible invite?

I’m not sure MJ09. Your situation/background would obviously bring a unique perspective to the event, but I’m not sure if MW is just for URMs, minorities, people with “multicultural experience”, etc…

Are there any past attendees on this forum that could help us out? What is multicultural weekend and WHEN is it? Wado!

From reading the other thread, it seems as though it is not just minroities but a culmination of all races, thus the name multicultural. I think that it is usually minorities or people who have spent time in another country (either living or for some sort of research/missionary etc.),however. There are some international students that are invited, but since the school pays for all aspects of the trip (including airfare), it is my guess that international guests are kept at a minimum.

In regards to it being an actual acceptance, others have said that they get a large envelope and some people say they also get a small envelope but I am not sure if either envelope contains any indication of you actually being accepted (i.e. financial aid info or a straight letter of acceptance).

Last year, multicultural weekend was in mid-April I believe (I want to say the 12th through the 14th but I’m not sure).

Do you mean the day you get notification that you are invited or the actual day of the weekend?

I just looked the weekend up and it is the weekend of April 17th.
It may not be completely official because I found it by looking at the Korean Student Association’s schedule (apparently they are having some performance for the people at Multiciltural Weekend and this is the date that they put down.)

I’m not completely positive about the day that you get the letters but the OP on the 2008 thread said the week of the 25th (or the last week in February I’m guessing).

Yes, a south indian student living and born in the US is definitely eligible for this event. Many Asian American students are invited to participate each year.

My D is a half south Indian student living & born in the US - she was invited last year. The letter inviting her to the weekend - if I recall – said something along the lines of “this is not an official acceptance, you will get that in a week or two…” and then went on to explain about the multi-cultural weekend invite. I can’t remember if it was a big or small envelope.

For the record, there were ~600 people visiting during multicultural weekend last year.
Here’s a recent article about it- it has a general negative view, but there is a bit of information in the comments as well.
