Multicultural Weekend 2009

Okay, I’m having a bit of a conversation with (3) WashU admissions people right now and their answers are driving me completely insane!! It’s nothing bad, but I’m just wondering if you guys can shed any light to their responses (it’s all via email, by the way).

All right, so I am applying to something called the Indian Health Service scholarship program and it says the following (and I quote) on the website,“A copy of a letter of acceptance from Washington University in St. Louis (MO) (note: it only says this because I put WUSTL as my #1 choice) - or - proof of application to a health professions program. If you are in the process of applying to more than one school, please include Proof of Application for all schools to which you are applying.
The letter of acceptance or proof of application you send must:

Be on school letterhead.

Be current and dated.

State that you are currently enrolled for the semester in which you are applying for scholarship.

State the program in which you are enrolled.”
I never got anything on actual letterhead or anything from WashU, so I just emailed my admissions counselor (who I’ve been talking to quite a bit) to see if I could get something (I did the same thing for Duke and the admissions director just wrote something up saying I have applied to Pratt and plans to purse BME and med school, etc.) so I thought WashU could just do something similar.

However, my counselor forwarded the email onto another counselor (I think just because they are so swamped right now?) and this lady said, "Dear blah,

Greetings from St. Louis! We appreciate your continued interest in Washington University.

We will be mailing out decision letters by April 1. The decision letter will be dated and on University letterhead. In the meanwhile, you can check your online application status for updated information.

Best,
blah."

I just responded saying I didn’t need an admissions decision but was just looking for something small (like the letter the man from Duke wrote up).

Then, I got an email from ANOTHER counselor (the director of admissions??) and this is what she said (I got this a few hours ago), "blahblah -

Greetings to you from Washington University in St. Louis.

You’ll have something from us by your deadline.

Thanks.

Nanette."

and the other counselor wrote another email saying something similar, and it came just a few minutes ago!

haha, I have no idea what this means!!!

Can anyone make sense of this?

oh god. i don’t want hope. right now, all i want is APATHY. but alas, it is nowhere to be found…

for all of you who are freaking out, my invite came today!
good luck!

i didn’t even know wash u acceptances were already out, but i checked my email today and found an invitation.

me too.

april 16 to 19th right?

My invite came via e-mail about an hour ago. (I’m half-Japanese and half unknown-form-of-white.) About how many people go to this, anyway?

I’m Chinese American and I got invited
I’m not sure if I want to go to this or the Olin Business Weekend. Or both?
Is this weekend fun?

My D went to multi-cultural weekend last year and it helped cement her decision to attend WUSTL (even though it pretty much rained and was quite cold during her visit). Last year it was held during the same weekend as the school’s Thurtene Carnival - which is the largest student run event blah blah blah (in the world? in the US? at WUSTL? I forget…). Can’t answer to the business weekend…

Hi everyone. I am an international from Vancouver, Canada and I am not really sure what this Multicultural Celebration Weekend is.

Is it for free?

I just got my acceptance package and the invitation is in it. Does everyone get this?

What method does WUSTL pay for our travel expense (do we scan them a ticket receipt or something?)

Sorry I am new to this event.

Congrats! Last year they had a travel agent set up the airline if I recall - you tell them what airport you want to go from. You stay with a student in a dorm -on the floor in a sleeping bag (your own). They also provide a meal card. They also provide the ticket for the carnival (which is not free for students). D didn’t need any money other than what she needed to buy some apparel.

I got the invite! Yay. Hope to see you guys there.

Got the invite, filled out the form, and real excited.

Is there anyone here who has attended this in the past and decided NOT to go?
or know of anyone who has gone to a similar event and decided not to go?

I dont want to miss on any college visitng opportunities during the days I could be here and make a decision to go to wustl although another school may have been a better choice.

jliu, my brother was accepted to WUSTL last year and attended multicultural weekend. When he got back, all he talked about was how great the school was and how much fun he had. He said it was really amazing and the dorms he stayed in were a lot nicer than he had expected. From what he told me, it’s not the typical campus tour / visit. You actually experience life at WUSTL and you get a really good idea of what it would be like to attend WUSTL.

In the end, he decided to go to UC Berkeley. It was mostly because my dad wouldn’t stop bugging him about how expensive it would be to attend WUSTL or any private school for that matter. The UC system is about half the price of WUSTL for us (we’re from California), and Berkeley’s engineering school is definitely ranked higher (and more well-known internationally) than WUSTL School of Engineering. However, he told me that most of the other high school seniors he met at the multicultural weekend DID end up enrolling in WUSTL.

I think the only reason he ever seriously considered attending WUSTL was because of this multicultural weekend. You can’t really experience what it’s like unless you visit (especially since the Midwest isn’t exactly appealing to most of us in California), and the Multicultural weekend is probably the best (and cheapest) college visit you will have.

As for me, I just need to figure out if I want to miss Senior Ball for the multicultural weekend. Hopefully I’ll see you all there!

I’ve been invited to both the Multicultural Weekend and a weekend for architecture students in early April, and I can’t decide whether or not I want to attend both events. I definitely plan on attending the architecture weekend, and the Multicultural Weekend is during the end of my spring break, so it wouldn’t cause any conflicts. But would it be a waste of time to visit campus twice?

I’m going :] who else is going? pm me! ^_^

I’m going.
I signed up a couple days ago and am waiting for more information :D

i’m gonna go too!! see yall there!

Ahh I wish I could go but I can only have 3 absences to be exempt from finals :[

I’m planning to go (but haven’t yet submitted the form or w/e)! Anyone else from California going?
