hahahha yeah I live in Louisiana, so I know where you’re coming from.
(I was really amazed when I had acclimated to winter here and thought 40’s was warm… truly bizarre to check weather. com and think 'oh hey, I don’t need a coat today since it’s going to be 43 out!)

Your host probably hasn’t checked their email yet… just as whoever I’m hosting hasn’t responded even though I emailed them 3 days ago (I need to learn that not everyone is as crazy as I am about checking email…)

I leave out of Columbus International at 6:30 tomorrow morning. Will anyone be joining me? I’m so excited; I can’t wait! WashU really goes out of their way for these events.

I got an e-mail from the Admissions people yesterday and sent my host an e-mail.

I’m still not quite sure what we’re supposed to do. Are all the people attending Multicultural Weekend going to stay together or are we on our own - visiting classes and such?

I was also invited to a Dean’s Reception for the Business school on Saturday. Anyone else going?

I’m also leaving at I think 8:35 AM from Midway tomorrow. :)

I’m confused as well xiadane but I suppose I’ll go along with it as it happens. Anyone, like johnson, care to elaborate on the structure.

to quote superturt “when we stay with our hosts… do we follow them around? Or…erm…(not really sure how to phrase this) do we go in a group and err… decide on our own (for instance…erm… wandering/visiting campus on our own)?”

If I don’t find a roomate this weekend I think I’ll just send in the form to the housing committee with blind faith.

fai- What? Really? Did you double check your e-mail? I got reminder today. You got into Olin, right?

FHN- Well I suppose they’re going to give us some kind of itinerary when we get there. I was looking on the website and I saw that quite a few cultural groups have planned activities like Spirit of Korea, Night Market, Holi and some others.

i think we’ll follow our hosts around for the festivities and perhaps to places we’re interested in looking at, but we’ll also have free time to ourselves - they’re meant to me our guides. for example, i’ll be attending some art classes on friday by myself.

FHN- how much time you spend with your host is up to you. Personally, I’d be fine with either hanging out with my pre-frosh 24/7 or if they were on their own most of the time.

Since they need a TON of hosts for multicultural weekend, one way they remind the hosts that it’s not a big time commitment is that the pre-frosh pretty much keep themselves amused this weekend.
You’ll be super busy (I’m looking at the schedule right now), and could be gone from your host from 8 am til past midnight. (You don’t have to do everything on the schedule, but it looks really great).

You’ll meet a ton of other pre-froshes while your here (there were 600+ last year), so just be open to meeting new people and it will be really fun.

One final word of advice: if you are seriously interested in accepting your offer to WashU, IGNORE all the people on the shuttle who will say they only came since it’s a free trip and they have no desire to actually go to WashU.
I have one friend who was bad mouthing WashU on her shuttle ride the entire way from the airport, bragging about how she was either going to go to Yale or Stanford anyway. Ironically, she’s now at the local state U (and I’m not from a state that has all that great public schools)- no idea how that happened.

As a side note, Thurtene is this weekend, which should be AMAZING. No lie.

Edit://
Regarding the hosts- all we really do is just give you a floor to sleep on at night. lol. I guess we could go with you to the festivities, but your host will probably be busy.

One other thing:
If your host has emailed you, and you haven’t responded, DO SO.

AKA, my pre-frosh hasn’t responded and if I don’t get an email today, I’m not going out of my way to find her randomly tomorrow since I have a crazy schedule tomorrow.

And what if its the other way around? I emailed my host yesterday and they still haven’t gotten back to me haha =)
I guess I’ll call her soon, but I’d rather avoid the awkward ‘Hi I’m going to be sleeping on the floor of your room for the next few days’
I’m so excited for the weekend though!!

I still haven’t recieved my confirmation packet and I called the admissions office last week who said they would send me another one priority mail. It’s been almost a week and I still haven’t gotten it. I leave tomorrow at 7:30 am and I’m really lost on what I’m supposed to do once I get to the airport and what to bring and the schedule. If anyone could tell me what it says in the confirmation packet that would be such a great help!

@grace17: Me too. I e-mailed my host yesterday and she hasn’t replied yet. :(

@vanillacutie: Here’s some info from my packet (Assuming they’re all the same :D).
It says that on if you’re flying to Lambert Airport you will need a photo ID to check into the airport and that you need to cover any extra baggage expenses (if any occur) on your own. Once you arrive, you should look for a greeting center near the Hertz Rent A car counter in the baggage claim area of the MAIN TERMINAL near luggage carousel M3.

Dress is casual… An informal dinner has been planned for 6:15 PM that day.
Also included is a list of what you’ll need (sleeping bag, toiletries, towel, alarm clock, umbrella… clothes).

And a long list of rules/expectations for overnight visitors. Basically to keep your WashU Guest ID with you at all times and that you can bring some extra cash if you want. Also… to respect your host and arrive on time to classes that you visit, etc etc.

The confirmation packet had
1.a map of the school
2. a list of things to bring (clothes, alarm clock, pillow, sleeping bag, towels…) and the phone number of the admissions office
3. the directions to school if youre driving, telling you that if youre flying bring proper id, check in your baggage, look for washu reps at the Hertz Rent a Car in the Main Terminal near luggage carousel M3, and that they’re providing transportation to school.
4. A bunch of rules for proper conduct (aka dont drink), dont expect your host to cater to you, etc.
Did you get the name of your host though?

so i dont need any formal clothes or anything like that? just like casual jeans and stuff? is the schedule really busy? i’m trying to make an appointment with the financial aid person but I don’t know what time is a good time. my mom is also coming along too. do the wash u reps take her to the university with me from the airport or does she have to get there by herself?

sorry if thats a lot of questions but you guys have been a big help!

Vanillacutie: They didn’t give an exact schedule, but the one dinner which they spoke about was the first dinner which they specifically wrote was informal, so I doubt there’s a need for really formal clothes. I’m not sure about the financial aid meeting, but the school is really laid back in general so I doubt you’d need to dress formally. Sorry, I don’t know about the other question.

Jinxed- I’m very sorry about your host situation, and the fact that I laughed a little when I read it. If anything, once we get there I’m sure the school will contact the host for us, but I’m sure hoping it doesn’t come to that =)
