multiple days for ACT - test center

Hi,
DD has been approved for multiple days for ACT, she has IEP since 3rd grade, and is currently attending a private school. The private school normally registered and proctored the ACT for her, but refused to do it for June because they do not have enough staff. Can they do it and what can be done? Has anyone been successful in finding someone to proctor themselves?

My daughter is also approved for multiple-day testing for the ACT and attends a private school.

While the ACT folks allow a 3-week window during which testing can occur, my daughter’s school has set limits on testing days. Specifically, for the ACT, twice a year (once in September and once in April) my daughter’s school administers the ACT over 2 days – a Saturday and a Sunday. They do the same for the SAT. While this is not exactly done in the spirit of how the tests are supposed to be administered for multiple-day testing, it has worked for us, and we have not had any issues.

In the past, when we have needed to set up alternate testing dates for non-standardized testing over winter and/or spring breaks, we have offered to pay for a proctor to come in. Standardized testing, however, is a whole other animal altogether.

I have a couple of suggestions for how you can proceed:

  1. Perhaps you can offer to pay for a proctor to come in? You might want to discuss this possibility with the resource person at your daughter’s school (the one who handles special testing). I think that the ACT even can provide funding to pay for proctors. This, of course, gets more problematic if your daughter needs to take the test in multiple sessions over the course of a several weeks; if it’s just paying someone to come in for two or three consecutive days, that would probably be easier to coordinate than one subtest per day over multiple days/weeks. If you are not satisfied with the school’s willingness to cooperate, you can go up the ranks of the administration, if need be (I always like to pick my battles, though)

  2. If you can’t make any headway at your daughter’s school, you can contact the ACT and ask if they know of any alternate testing sites (sometimes, there are approved testing centers set up for people that take standardized tests or for those that need to take proctored tests/final exams for online courses, etc.). You could also contact your local school district (you are still a taxpayer even if your kiddo is not an enrolled student). They might be able to help arrange something.

Hope this helps!

thank you. I went up to the Principal and he approved. It was just that I did not realize they did not handle June testing , DD was studying. I found out on the second last day before deadline, hence it was difficult for me to find alternate solution. I did call ACT, they suggested I could contact local county colleges etc, but they do not maintain any list of school and do not make recommendations.
