I'm entering my junior year in high school in the fall and after reading a lot of the posts on cc, I'm getting confused on the attitudes toward BS/MD programs and the like. I understand that undergrad prestige has negligible effect on med school and the same is true for getting into residencies. Even so, some of the people on cc state that BS/MD have "low" reputation and it's hard to get accepted into jobs and residencies after these programs. But if the school one attends has little to no effect on the options one has after graduating, multiple degree programs are just as reputable and acceptable as the traditional route.

Do residencies care about the reputation of the multiple degree programs when accepting applicants?

When residencies look at your application, do they know that you were in a BS/MD program or do they just see that you graduated from a certain medical school?

What are the benefits and the negatives of multiple degree programs?

Thanks a ton for your time and I greatly appreciate your help with my questions.

You might be getting way too ahead of yourself. When you have choices of programs after being accepted to few, maybe then you should ask. As one example, I am sure that finishing HPME at Feinberg and finishing Feinberg after being accepted there “regular route” will result in the same residencies based on your Board score. I am also sure that after finishing PPSP at Case one has the same type of residencies as those who were accepted to Case Med. school “regular route”. there is no difference at Med. School, it does not matter how people ended up there. The huge difference is based on Board score. The same is probably true for any program. But again, why to ask yourself about so early, just enjoy your HS, you will miss it after all said and done.

OP do not believe that! those people are just jealous haters! believe me if you goto rice/baylor , case western etc… do not even think about having to worry! connection to your undergrad and post m.d. training is like the connection of your 5th and 6th grade spelling tests grades and your acceptance to college.
if you do a bs/md program you must keep up your grades and not slack… but people saying those things are just jealous folks or more likely those trying to reduce competiton for the limited slots! (mind games) IGNORE THEM!

As I said, in Med. School there is no difference whatsoever between those who got there as part of their bs/md and those who were accepted “regular route”. They are in the same class of 170 (+ -), having exactly the same lectures, taking the same exams and applying to the same residencies based primarily on their Board test score. Any commnets about that are simply spread by those who have no idea at all. Yep, IGNORE THEM!!!
