Multiple EA applicants from the same school?

Historically, my school has had one student accepted to MIT every other year. This year, there are at least 8 of us applying EA that I know of, and we all have decent stats and ECs, but nothing extraordinary... Although I feel I can hold my own in terms of fit and personality, etc., especially considering how badly I want to go to MIT, I'm worried because one of the other applicants went to WTP and another went to MITES. How much of a factor is that?

That’s not really easily quantifiable.

That said, there’s no reason MIT can’t accept 2 or 4 or 8 applicants from your school.

My son’s HS went for several years without any MIT acceptances, then accepted 3 in one year. You just never know.

Yep, students are not compared within a school but within a much wider population group. You could get 8 accepted from a school or none. It just depends on the year and on the students. That is tricky, because students generally cannot tell how strong or weak their year group is compared to all others.

It’s one of the many things you have no control over. Some schools have a dozen applicants every year or more.

Jeez, how big is your school? I’m literally the only person AFAIK that is applying to MIT. Probably one of only a few who is even applying more than 1 state away. Not a whole lot of competition in rural Idaho, but that can be a good or a bad thing :>
