Multiple Languages and appying ED

Hi,

Does it hurt to take more than 2 languages?

I am a male, Asian-American, Junior from a large public school in MA. I have a 3.3 unweighted GPA... not great. I took AP French IV language this year, as well as Honors Chinese III and Spanish II.

I speak Cantonese at home, and I have become fluent in French and Mandarin and am hoping to be fluent in Spanish by next year. I love language so much!
I have yet to take my SAT's but I think I'm going to get a 2100.
Does this look sketchy with my GPA? Will colleges think I'm slaking? Ahh!

I will be taking AP French Literature, Honors Chinese IV and Honors Spanish III next year... three very challenging courses at my school.

Would I get in for International Relations ED?

I suggest you don’t put pokemon club on your app lol. First of all there is no guarantee CAS will let you in their IR major, because you have to be chosen for in your sophomore year, and usually only about 15-20 people get into this lucrative major. I don’t think your GPA is great, but make sure your SAT balances that out. (2100+) I also speak about three languages besides English including Urdu/Hindi, Arabic, and Spanish, and it definitely makes you look like a marketable student for admissions purposes. I am applying ED for Economics/Mathematics also, so hopefully we both get in lol!

I won’t put pokemon in… but I had no idea about the IR thing!
I realllllllllllllllly hope we get in!!

You can apply for the IR major, my roommate got into NYU for that. But his status for the major is still pending of course until the end of freshmen year if he gets over a certain GPA or something.

Of course languages won’t reflect badly in your transcript. It actually paints a very good image of you, like you already have a “theme” to your application. Multiple languages, wishes to pursue international relations. It all fits and makes sense.

When you’re taking the SAT IIs, just don’t take Chinese because they don’t like native speakers taking their own language.
