I'm an incoming freshman, and I've been looking over the degree requirements for Economics, Finance, and Marketing and I noticed that there is a lot of overlap as far as what classes are required. There is really only like 4 classes that are different between each major, and I was wondering if it would be possible for me to triple major, and if I so would it be a good idea?

no, the business college realizes that this is possible, and thus don’t allow people to double major within the business college.

Well, there’s actually 1 exception to that rule. You can double major within the business college if one of the majors is Information Systems. It’s just 4 extra required classes, but it is really different from the majors you listed.

Is there any business related major that can be doubled with accounting?

“In addition, by Fisher School of Accounting faculty policy, students may not double major or enter any dual degree program (except for the 3/2 M.Acc. or the J.D./M.Acc).”

@aforautumn,
Thanks for the quick reply! I noticed that on that web page it states at the top “Policies and Procedures Relating to Freshmen and Sophomore Students.” So would that statement that you provided relate only to freshman and sophomores? Because I will be entering (hopefully) as a junior with my AA.

Thank you for the information, but I have another question. I understand that I can’t officially double or triple major, but what if I just took the other required classes through my electives, and then applied for mulitple degrees once I graduated? If I have all the requirements done, can they still deny my application for multiple degrees?

I don’t know the specifics off the top of my head, but the accounting school has its own set of weird policies that make it pretty unique. I’m not optimistic, but you can try to pursue that and get a better answer. Off the top of my head, a couple of things change after your sophomore year as far as the accounting college is concerned. Among them, for instance (if i’m remembering right), you can’t change your major to accounting after your sophomore year. Stuff like that.

there is no way around it. AFAIK, applying for degrees is not so much about ‘applying for a degree’, but sending a notification to your college that you’re ready to graduate, and for them to review your records to make sure you’ve met all of your requirements. I haven’t graduated, but that has been my impression. either way, i’ve never heard of anyone who who had done what you’re thinking, and i can assure you, just about every student in the business college who came in with some credits has had the same thought.

Thanks for the info, I just want to get the most out of my time at UF.
