Our school will not re-rank until EOY, even though we are sem. (we only have 2 sem., i.e same as most colleges) the new ranking will not come out until prior to grad in Jun. Athletics and comps are not given until end of May.

Please understand I am not fighting the matter, I am just saying how it is in OUR area. Our MOC has the exact same info: transcripts, SAT, ACT, essays, teacher eval, plus personal recs (2) instead of the ALO/MALO/BGO rec and CFA. I think everyone is not understanding where my point was. The "Congressional Guide" is just that, a guide, unless someone can show me that they have to adhere by law, it is a guide. I can only say that our MOC gives a "primary" not principal. I am and have always been aware of how the system works.
Again this is how our area in NC works, it could be different even through other areas of NC, this is just OUR experience. As I respect you, please respect me to know what is submitted and how they are selected in my area. Side note, our s has received 2 noms has an interview with Burr on the 5th, the letters state the method they chose/choose.

Just a curiosity question why jump on me whens I am only stating what occurs in our area? I can understand if you have experience with Dole/Burr and had a different experience, but to tell me that I am wrong when the nom letters are in my home is offensive to me. Afterall, I thought we were here to support each oher.

US Code, Title 10, Subtitle C, Part 111, Chapter 603, Section 6954 (USNA. but the others are exactly the same}:

the Resident Commissioner from Puerto Rico, is entitled to nominate
10 persons for each vacancy that is available under this section.
Nominees may be submitted without ranking or with a principal
candidate and 9 ranked or unranked alternates. Qualified nominees
not selected for appointment under this subsection shall be
considered qualified alternates for the purposes of selection under
other provisions of this chapter.

Looks as if your MOC needs to read the law.

Additionally, there were some very good reasons posted above as to why the SAs would rather a competitive slate be submitted. I didn't notice anything disrespectful in any of them.

I am cooked... my head hurts from banging against the wall...the bush is dead... the white flag is up...good luck to all, b/c no matter what, unless I scan in the noms, I am wrong.

Happy New Year to all of you and your families!

bulletandpima - Please don's take anything personally, I don't believe anyone meant their comments as personal attacks. While we are here to support one another, it is also important that candidates understand the nomination process and are not confused by it. USNA69 is correct, the nomination process is defined by law and all MOCs (regardless of where they are) are bound by that law.

not attacking you at all - the process is very confusing. it is even confusing to MOC's. IF your MOC uses a "primary" - his terminology - just know that is not in the federal law and the academies are not required to be bound by it.

Only the academies know how the WCS is calculated. In all seriousness - your son's 7th semester transcripts will be considered. Don't worry if the school does not re-rank the class, you don't have control over that.
Noms aren't due till end of January - the slates all have to be evaluated and that takes time.

Consider this - the MOC ranks nominees 1-10 and the appt is offered to #1 in early Feb. This candidate ultimately rejects the appt the end of March and admissions needs to fill the slate. If the MOC ranked then #2 is offered. But what if #3 updated her file with academic and athletic excellence that occurred in Jan and Feb. Her WCS could be higher than #2's but by law the academy must appt #2.
IF the MOC did not rank then the academy would look at the rest of the slate and their currect WCS and award the appt to the one with the highest score.

Admissions is a process that is very fluid and goes on from about Dec right through to May and sometimes even June. MOC's are through with their process usually in Dec or January at the latest.

Over the years, I have seen the MOCs as the weak link in the system. Typically the office "expert" has many duties of which this is only a small one exercised once a year.

Another problem, and this also happens with the SA Admissions Offices, is that they try, in their explanations to candidates, to simplify a very complex process, and sometimes omit things that are important for those more 'in the know.'

The form on which the slate is submitted only has checkable blocks for three options so it has to be submitted correctly. There is no 'primary' box.

I'm sorry if you thought anyone was jumping on you. It's true that typing a post is not even close to having a face-to-face discussion and comments are easily misunderstood. I reread the posts and think that these were gentle comments meant to show you that your MOC is using inaccurate terminology rather than you didn't understand the process.

In the meantime, congratulation on the nominations already received and best of luck to your son on the next interview. Please stay with us as we really are here to support each other and we'll want to know how it all works out for him.

I've received a nomination from Congressman Price and Senator Burr. Congressman Price may just submit an un-numbered list to the academy. On the other hand, Senator Burr submits a numbered list of nominated candidates. Have there been any officially submitted lists of the nominations released to the public for the class of 2012? Last year they gave their nominations in a press-release. Just wondering if anyone heard anything...

hey rambosolos,
did u by any chance go to SLS this summer, session two? I see that u got nom's from Price and Burr, I did too. Just wondering if we might have met, I lived in Chapel Hill until this summer when I moved overseas.

The only senator that I know of who released their list is Sen. Clinton. I looked on Burr's website last night and could not find any press releases. I couldn't find any for Dole either or any NC congressman. They might not release it.

Just looked up Burr's news releases from last year and he announced the names of noms on Feb.9th , my guess if he releases them it will be anyday,

I've spoken with Price and Burr's respective academy people, and both stated that they use the competitive method. It was my understanding until this post that Burr also used this method...can anyone for sure confirm or deny this with regard to Burr?

Can't speak for Price because we are not in that district.

Dole submits her noms alphabetically and uses competitive

Burr also uses competitive, but we were told the list is submitted in his rank order...which means, as I have learned nothing, the WCS is what matters.

Multiple nom. information can be a bit misleading. Just because you have multiple nominations does not mean your Whole Candidate Score is going to be any higher than anyone else's, however, it will give the Academy more flexibility with filling in the necessary slots from each district. For those who aren't aware of the WCS, in short, multiple nominations cannot hurt you.

Thank you all for your answers, although this isn't my thread. I've been reading these forums for a few years, and although I've never posted until now they've been a great help to me throughout the application process, which I have just completed officially yesterday.
