Multiple people applying ED to Vanderbilt

A girl in my grade and I are both planning to apply ED to Vandy for the class of 2017, and I am worried that her application will result in my rejection.

Let me give you a bit of background first…
I go to a very competitive small private school (90 students per grade). Not many people apply to Vanderbilt from my school. About one person attends Vanderbilt each year, but I am not sure how many are expected each year. According to my school’s naviance scattergram, I am well above their average GPA of accepted students from my school and I meet the average ACT score of those accepted from my school. My ECs, letters of rec and essay are all good I would say for an ED applicant to Vandy.

The girl in my grade that is applying has a much lower GPA than I do (lower than the average on naviance). I am not sure about her ACT score, but it is either the same or lower than the average student to be accepted to Vandy from my school. However, she has a hook. She has connections and her family donates money to the school for research through a fundraiser her family does and one of her distant relatives goes there. Her ECs, letters of rec and essay are pretty good as well.

So I guess my question is, if we both apply ED will her hook trump my higher academics? Are we both in competition with each other to get in? Does she have a better shot?

YOU should not worry about what SHE does. Stop being so insecure and childish about this whole process. Don’t perceive her as a threat: if Vandy wants her, then they’ll take her. If they want both of you, then they’ll take both. By the way, what does HER life have anything to do with you? Focus on your own application.

By the way: two girls from my high achieving HS applied ED to Vandy this year. They had different backgrounds but similar stats, and we get very little people into Vandy each year as well. Both of them got in.
