I’m currently in 12th grade, and I was wondering if SDSU look at ur 12th grade gpa? I’m a SD local. I’m thinking of doing the engineering compact, but I’m still thinking about it. My GPA is 3.71 (10-11), and sat of 1110. Would I have more chance of getting in computer science or civil engineer? Is there a website where I can check the avg gpa for cs admits?
@hnyuhiv I can only answer part of your question, sorry! On the Cal State Apply application, you include your 12th grade courses, so the schools you’re applying to know what you’re taking this year. The app is due Nov. 30th, so your first semester 12th grade grades are not applicable, because you don’t have them yet. Once you’re admitted to a school, they’ll ask for transcripts, but as far as getting in to a school, 12th grade grades aren’t calculated into the CSU capped GPA. Good luck!!
SDSU admits by Eligibility index and major. They do not publish the EI’s, GPA’s or test scores by major only # of applicants vs admitted vs enrolled. If your CSU GPA is 3.71 then your EI is (3.71x 800) + 1110 = 4078. An EI of 4200+ can be competitive so if you bump up your SAT by November you will have a better chance. SDSU no longer gives local preference except for the Compact for Success and Engineering compact which are in their last year so it would give that extra boost.
CS is not part of the program.

Here are the SDSU’s average stats for Freshman 2018:
Admitted Student Profile (Fall 2018)
Average high school GPA: 3.93 (CSU capped weighted)
Average SAT score: 1264
Average ACT score: 27
So using these numbers the average EI would be 4408 for SAT and 1056 for ACT. I am assuming that the Nursing stats which are usually the highest with a minimum 4500 EI SAT is included in this data.
This data just gives you an idea of how competitive SDSU has become. Their average GPA is higher than UC Riverside and Merced and just 0.03 below UC Santa Cruz.
Hey, I went from a 1100 to a 1260 with a 3.73 weighted gpa! I wanted to know if I have a good chance at getting in computer science or computer engineering
I would say you are competitive but definitely no guarantees. You will be compared to all the CS or CPE applicants and ranked based on your EI. I have some EI Data from this year’s accepted applicants based on their CC posted stats and they range from an EI of 4252 to an EI of 5080 for CS and CPE.
