Multiple supplement essays?

Hello to all you prospective & current Yalies

I adore Yale and have dreamed about attending for so long now that faced with just a few weeks until the deadline for submitting my application, I'm beginning to fret about all sorts of things.

The Yale Supplement requires just the one essay. However, I have written a number of essays for other colleges that I think are all really good and I can't choose between them; would it be OK to submit more than one supplementary essay to Yale? I'm an international applicant with a rather varied cultural background and if I choose to submit the essay that focuses on that area then I can't submit my other essay, which I feel is as strong if not more so.

I plan to phone the admissions department tomorrow, but it's obviously difficult considering the different time zones and costs and all.

Also, does anyone know if other colleges would be open to this even if Yale aren't? I'm also looking at Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Dartmouth & some LACs.

Many thanks!

Definitely not for Yale. They specify a 500 word limit. Stick to one good essay in the supplement.

vicariousparent is right - willfully not heeding the instructions on the application is just an invitation for the adcom’s annoyance.

Regarding having two supplementary essays at some of the other colleges you listed:
Harvard - probably not as they don’t even have an official second essay; it is already optional so submitting more would not be a good idea, unless they would truly add a substantive other dimension to your app.
Princeton - definitely not; they want 500 words too.
Columbia - definitely not; they specifically say ‘Please do not submit additional essays’ or similar.
Dartmouth - they don’t even have a place on their supplement to add another essay (i.e. they don’t have a second essay); a better option would be to get a peer recommendation that explains some of the cultural stuff.
LACs - check their applications…
