A while back someone on CC told me that being part Asian and part Hispanic would cancel out a URM "bonus" or any special consideration that may be given. Although I took this with a grain of salt, I wonder what you guys think? Wouldn't it be a bit more special than being a single race URM, as I'm assuming racial mixes like these are relatively rare? I'm not asking for some sort of debate, I'm just wondering what you guys would think.

Hispanic is an ethnicity, not a race. The CommonApp asks two questions: the first is if you’re hispanic, the second is what race you are (white, asian, american indian, pacific islander, african american). Most hispanics are white. Some are Asian. Some are American Indian. Whatever race you indicate won’t detract from the hispanic hook. That’s in the case of a hispanic.
In the case of a non-hispanic black/asian mix, for example, I think the black hook might be weakened by the half asian part. However, the hook would still exist. Just my 2 cents.

It’s absurd to say that your Asian heritage offsets your Hispanic heritage. That’s just wrong on so many fronts. List plainly your parents’ backgrounds, submit your best app and be content. Best of luck to you
