This year I am taking Multivariable Calculus, but the course is extremely difficult and I am getting the equivalent of a C. I do not want to pursue math in college, and I have heard that this course is pretty much only used at NASA and by practitioners of the Engineering field. I am interested in studying both East Asian Studies (Chinese) and Pre-Med/Biology. I took Calculus AB last year, but I have not taken Calculus BC yet. I think that in BC, I could definitely get an A, but how would it look on a transcript if I switched into BC? Does anyone take both AB and BC Calculus?

Multivariate Calculus is the course after AP Calculus BC. You should definitely be taking BC after AB, not Multivariate.

Post #2 is correct. AP Calculus AB is the equivalent of a half year of college calculus, whereas BC is equal to a full year. In the days of yore, linear algebra was taught before multivariable calculus, so that's another alternative to consider.

In our school district the kids take on year of AB and then take a year of BC. It will not be seen as an issue if you switch. It is very unusual for an applicant to have multivariable on their transcript at all, especially one who isn't planning on pursuing engineering or science.

yse, your situation is fine. in fact, it makes you stand out.
