Received a notice today of at least 10 cases of mumps at Fordham U.

Yeah, lit’s a little scary. So far most are up at Rose Hill and one at LC. They must be breaking through the vaccinations. :/

Wonder if they were vaccinated?

My assumption is they were since the vaccine is required for college. I mean, I don’t have it, but for a medical reason, otherwise I would get it. Hey could have been vaccinated, but they broke through it. It’s possible, unfortunately. But yeah, there is also the possibility that they were not vaccinated.

It may have been caught from outside the gates of the campus and then spread on campus to the students.

I heard about it on the news yesterday but they were reporting from RH. I didn’t know they had a case at LC now, too, but I guess it was only a matter of time. The Daily News indicated that there are 13 cases, that all of the students had been vaccinated before and they all live on campus.

When I was in college there was a measles outbreak and everyone had to get vaccinated again. I remember waiting on line in the gym for the shot and you weren’t allowed anywhere on campus without your yellow card which was proof of vaccination. Hopefully Fordham will be able to contain this but I guess the biggest problem is that you are contagious before you have symptoms. Isolating the sick students might not be enough.

It could happen anywhere. But as a parent of a current student I am NOT happy to hear about this and am praying that everyone gets well soon and nobody else gets sick!
