UMass Amherst Conference -- March 24-26. Anyone else going?

Do you guys have countries/committees for JHUMUNC yet? I think we're Iran, DPRK, and something else.

Poland, Peru, Zimbabwe

<3 MUN

I've been to SSUNS (in Montreal) three years in a row, and last spring I attended HMCE (Harvard Model Congress Europe) in Paris. I've also been going to the local MUN here... U of C HSMUN. That one happens in about two weeks!!

What countries have you guys been?

I've represented Doctors Without Borders (not a country obviously), Bahrain, Sudan, the UK, Cuba, and my next one is Israel.

Countries i have been
Iran, Algeria, Greece
Will be representing Nicaragua next
Have also been the represantive of the supreme leader

I've been Peru on a novice committee, Guatemala on Status of Children, UK on Legal (most boring committee I've ever had to suffer through), France on SOCHUM (two conferences in a row), UK on SOCHUM, Venezuela on SOCHUM (a full year, and nothing but SOCHUM), China on a crisis committee, and a justice on ICJ. Next, I'll do Belgium on EU and then China on ASEAN.

We've gotten our assignments for JHUMUNC, but I can't remember what they are. theoneo, do you know what committee you're on? Anyone going to WAMUNC?

Can someone explain Model UN? Is it like Debate or do you just give speeches for your topic? Thanks

OMG we got back from BosMUN yesterday.

SUCHHHH CRAPPPPPPPPPPP.

We had to leave early because of the blizzard!

We took the bus up there Thursday since we're so far away from Boston (NJ). The conference began on Friday afternoon, so we attended opening ceremonies (boring) and the first committee session. As soon as we got back to our hotel one of our advisors told us we'd have to go back ASAP - meaning Saturday morning, we wouldn't be able to attend ANY more sessions. We had a hard time getting a bus, but we finally got one at 4:30, which meant we could've gone to 2 more sessions before leaving.

Anyway, since we left early we're all automatically disqualified from receiving official awards... which sucks because, in all honesty, almost all the other delegates SUCKED. We would've taken best - or at least outstanding - delegation easily.

Grrrrrrrrrr.

Now my parents might not let me go to JHUMUNC because of my report card. >:0

Stupid Asian parents.

[/rant]

sciencenerd- MUN is a form of debate. You represent your countrie's position on assignioned topics. usually, you have to write a position paper on your countries position to come up with several proposals to solve the problem the topic brings out.
At the actual MUN, you debate and try to persuade other countries to your point of view. Then the next major thing is during the confernece you try to right a resolution with other countries regarding your position and then trying to get it passed by a majority of the countries.
this is my attempt of explaining it -you can PM me if you want more info or just keep asking questions on this thread for me or other experienceed MUN people!:)
