A friend of mine had this on facebook, and I thought it was interesting.

Some ensemble are current college students as well. I know at least one student from OCU that will be in the ensemble. What a fantastic opportunity for them all!

Doesn’t MUNY do this every year?

Yes, every year. Nothing new. I know several students from at least three schools who were cast in several shows last year but unfortunately did not get cast again this season.

A lot of college students go to the MUNY auditions. They do offer summers contracts so that college students can be cast while still in school. We had 5 Musical Theatre students go to the dancer call, and 2 were kept 'til the final callback. We had 2 Musical Theatre students go to the singer call and one was kept 'til the final callback. We also have a current Musical Theatre student who did Dreamgirls there last summer!

I think perhaps the thing that the OP found interesting is that they are all cast in lead roles? They are rising juniors so that at audition time they were sophomores.

Yes, I thought it was interesting that they had lead roles and that 3 of them were from U of M.

I thought it was great to see one of the leads was from Central Michigan…a small program that most do not know about and had 50 audition this year. Just goes to show you there are many paths.
