Hi all,

Today I received an e-mail saying that I have been nominated as a semi-finalist for the Murray Scholarship, 1 of 60 kids chosen. The e-mail went on to say how they'll whittle that amount down to 20 finalists and finally choose 4 recipients blah blah blah.

What I was wondering is since I was chosen as 1 of 60 semi-finalists for W&M's "most prestigious scholarship", and that the e-mail said that I had a "superb... extremely impressive application", am I pretty much accepted? Obviously this is nothing official, but I'm just wondering if there's a possibility that I don't get in after receiving this (aside from my being expelled, arrested, etc., other flagrantly egregious things).

Thanks.

haha yeah basically! Congrats I’ll see you around campus!

AND CONGRATS on being a semi-finalist.

they don’t consider offering scholarships to people they aren’t going to accept =P

congrats.

niiiice! thanks, twitter and soccerguy.
I am very excited.

@twitter23, do you go to w&m? if so, have you enjoyed your time there so far (are you a freshman, soph, etc.)?

You’re definitely accepted. And I think all semifinalists are automatically Monroe scholars, but that might be finalists.

That may be right, Malvenuto. There were 60 semifinalists this year, and 70+ Monroe Scholars for the class of 2013, so it is possible, though this is all the insight I have on the situation. It did not say anything about being a Monroe Scholar in the email that I received.

No. I’m not a freshman YET. But I will be this fall =) And looks like you will be too! I hope you get the Murray Scholarship - that’s pretty prestigious. Good luck!

Congratulations on being asked to submit the essay for the Murray Scholarship. Certainly those 60 students were exceedingly impressive in their credentials.
