I'm looking to go to Grad school to pursue a degree that will help me get a job in a museum or gallery/auction house. My background is a BFA in Photography and I'm looking for a school with a strong museum studies/administration program. I'm at a loss because since I come from an fine art field I'm not sure which schools would be best to apply to. Many places I see have hired people with a art history PH.D, is this the better route then museum studies? Any advise would be very helpful.

Thanks!

Fordham and Columbia

It depends on your plans. If you want to go the administrative route, museum studies programs offer some classes on the business/administrative end. That can be helpful

Believe it or not, Seton Hall has a nice Museum Studies master's program. I personally know people from name undergrad schools that have chosen that program. It's got some good information, in any case.

My daughter aspires to becoming a curator someday, so we've done a bit of research.

I would imagine Art History. Go to every major museum website you can think of or find, and look at their employment section/human resources division, and they should be able to provide for you the information you need, more often than not you'll see Art History. Museum Studies is extremely specific, and may not be as broad as Art History.
