Museum Studies

If anyone has information about Museum Studies, Museology or Museum careers I would really love to hear about it. I know very little and would like to learn more.

I got my degree in Italy (in Museologia) after getting my MA in Art History. At that time there were not a lot of museology programs available. A great resource for your questions on this sort of career would be the curatorial staff at a local museum. Here in LA, the Getty is very supportive and responsive to students questions. Are you interested in conservation, exhibit assembly, or becoming a curator? If I was to pursue this field now, I would look into becoming a digital archivist. They just cant find enough qualified people.

Luther College and Beloit College bother have Museum Studies minors.

I believe they are two of only a few colleges in the US that offer them.

Baylor, Michigan State, Arizona State, Iowa and Juniata (PA) have programs in Museum Studies. St Marys College (MD) has a minor.

Connecticut Coll
Randolph-Macon Women's Coll (VA)
Regis Coll (MA)
Texas A&M
U Iowa
UNC Greensborough
U Southern Mississippi

Seton Hall has a five-year Master's. When we visited last year, we found that a lot of the people who came into the master's program (after getting the bachelor's elsewhere) were from very good schools.

I'm pretty sure Earlham College has this program.

Thank you everyone, this is a huge help.

MusicaMusica: Im honestly not sure what id like to do in a museum. At the moment curation holds my fancy. Digital archiving would be a library sciences sort of degree correct?

U Tulsa has a Museum studies major. They even operate an local art museum in partnership with the city.
