What kind of music program does Cal offer to non-music majors?

Although I think I want to be a Math/Econ double major, I still would like to learn to play the piano...is this possible? Many of the Music dept classes are only for muisc majors.

Anyone else learn to play an instrument at Cal?

I would love to learn to play the piano too

hi-
i myself am trying to do the same thing. contacted the private lesson teachers at cal for piano, and many of them cannot take non-majors as students, and others do not take beginners. they suggest looking for off-campus teachers. craigslist is a good place to start looking for teachers in the berkeley area, with some offering discounts for college students. i am going to start in the fall - im really excited! i have 5 yrs of violin experience but have always wanted to learn piano! :D

Where did you find out about private lessons from cal teachers? I am not a beginner (have studied string bass for 8 years) so that would be great if they could offer lessons to non-music majors. Also play the electric bass, so any jazz type lessons would be awesome...

oh, go to:

http://ls.berkeley.edu/dept/music/privateinstruction.html

contact the instructors on the list in your instrument area and see what they have to say about teaching a non-major. it's definitely worth a shot. good luck!

looks like there's only one instructor specializing in string bass. richard worn.
