They really have been calling themselves the Herb Alpert School of Music for at least a year, but now it is up for the regent’s blessing and the what started in 2007 with Mr. Alpert’s generocity is now about to become official. They have finished with the physical expansion and they are staying right where they are. Beyond that…I have no idea what else will transpire. (I would think they would start calling essentially what is already a BM a BM) I am happy that the UC System now has a “School of Music”.
Especially since it’s a real bargain for our in-state kids.

Except when the double degrees are in music performance (80+ credits) and engineering (80+ credits). then you are looking at more than 5 years.
If you’re interested in studying in the city of Chicago, it makes little sense that you’d look at U of Chicago for music, but not look at Northwestern, which actually has a school of music and a rich arts tradition linked to the theater programs.
Northwestern is already on the list. I was inquiring about schools that weren’t already on the list.

If you’re thinking about Chicago, you really should consider DePaul’s School of Music as well.
