My D is planning to apply to LU, but not the Con, though she could -- she's great at clarinet and sax. She expects to be a bio major, and possibly also seeking a BA in music. I believe the BA is not a Con major. Anyone know if D has to do the audition? I think she could do it on her head, but I think she'd rather not.

Your daughter is smart to know what she wants before she starts to study. She will be able to participate in musical groups and may have to audition for them but not all. Lawrence works with every student to plot a course of study that leads them where they want to go at least that was the experience my son had. The way to combine two degrees like that, and they do that, is a 5 year program with a BS in Music and a BA in another field. My son started out in that way and finished just with a BA after he realized that music was not where he wanted to go professionally. He still has his skills, instruments and love of music and they were a huge part of his early years. At 19 he changed his path and is now happily in grad school.

No audition required to get a BA in Music from the College. The BM from the Conservatory does require an audition to be admitted.

I believe you do not have to declare a music major in order to take lessons. Although, music majors get priority in getting teachers. Something about some students may get Seniors as instructors if the primary teacher’s schedule is full.
