Music/Bio programs on West Coast?

Any one have suggestions as to schools with good music performance (trombone) and biology programs on the West Coast? She is a rising senior, ranked 3/400, 3.97 UW, 1440/2080, great (and somewhat unusual) ECs and awards, will have 7 APs, qualified as CA ELC, has maxed out what her small rural town can offer. Will be retaking SAT in fall to raise 640/7 essay Writing score; 720 on Math and CR.
Thanks!

I'm sure that you've already thought of the obvious ones (Cal, UCLA, Stanford, USC), but also take a look at the Claremont colleges. You can take classes at any of the colleges and even have a minor at a different college than you attend.

Music performance and a science are two of the hardest majors to tryo to put together b/c of lab and ensemble requirements. At most places, the timing overlaps and it can be impossible to fufill the reqs.

Go to the Music Major forum (Discussion Home and then scroll down) and do a forum search using "trombone." That will give you some very interesting threads talking about music majors, trombone emphasis, music and pre-med etc. You could post your question there as well.

And look at USC. Great music program (Bill Watrous is the main trombone teacher) and I'm sure the biology is just fine too.

Thanks for the input -- she is a Scripps legacy and her top choice (if she can wrangle money) is USC. I'm taking my own kiddo to the Claremonts in October for interviews, etc., and I'm going to take her around to visit schools as well.

Any thoughts about the smaller LACs?

CountingDown, just my advice,
Look at some of the threads by parents frustrated because their kids cannot do what they set out to do in four years- majoring in two disciplines (there have been a couple in the past month). Music is very specific, bio gives a little more flexibility wrt electives, but that will be absorbed by the practice time required by music. You are looking at five years.

Most people only think about the big UC's like UCLA and Berkeley. However, the other campuses are a little easier for out-of-staters to get into and have great programs. Look into UC Irvine (Orange County). They have a great music performance program for vocalists, don't know about instrumentalists. UCI is in a great area. All the campuses will have excellent Bio programs. Also, definitely check out Chapman for the music....(also in Orange County)

Also be sure to check out Loyola Marymount (CA,) Willamette University (OR) and University of Puget Sound (WA).

For music check out University of Redlands. They also have good biology programs

Scripps is famous for dual majors in what appear to be divergent fields.
