What are the best schools in the nation for a music business or music industry major?

Belmont is the one I know. Great program, great location, great connections.

Berklee. But what are you going to do with this degree?

Drexel, Syracuse, SUNY Oneonta and SUNY Fredonia might be worth a look also. Best of luck!

I am caught between applying to Belmont or CSUN for transfer. I want to go into Music Business/Entertainment studies but I don’t know which one has a better rep. r if there is one with better. Belmont said 100% of its Curb College graduates are place in jobs within like 6 months.

Belmont or NYU hands down are where you need to be for Music Business. OR USC if you want to go into the Music Supervision part of the field and need to be by TV/Film people. I currently go to Belmont, MB is my minor, but it started off as my major here. I just happened to fall in love with the publicity side of things and made Public Relations my main focus but I still want to do that within the industry. Our networking opportunities are amazing here, and I have plenty of people in my classes that intern at Capitol, Warner, CMT, Sony, ASCAP, BMI, etc.

However, what zcocroft said… 100 percent of graduates are placed in jobs… that could be anywhere. I don’t want to sugar coat the fact that this is a VERY risky degree to get (partially why I switched)… its a sinking industry for anywhere, so just be careful. (I’m sure you’ve already heard this from skeptical people/parents, I know I did)

Belmont personally has clubs where you can go work the Grammys, Sun Dance, etc. They also were the first school to launch the Grammy University “Grammy U” network. You get free studio time, we own RCA studio B(cool perk), gorgeous campus, friendly people.

Also -for MB Majors they host an amazing internship fair every year, have a mentor program in place now where you can shadow, we are walking distance to music row, and they send kids to NYC and LA for a semester to study if you wish/apply to do so - also study abroad ops - two kids per semester go to a MB program in Australia

yet let me stress again
there are NOT really jobs right now open
so be prepared to intern, intern, intern and then shove your way in.

edit:
Belmont/NYU were rated the top two by Rolling Stone mag a while back
