Music Business Major

I am a high school senior intending to major in Music Business next year. I have already applied to New York University as an Early Decision Applicant, but if I don't get in there, I feel like I will be screwed.

The only other schools I know of with a Music Business major are Drexel, Belmont, and USC. Do you know of any other good schools I could apply to for Music Business if I don't get in to NYU?

Try Ohio U. Great communications program (produced Matt Lauer) and has a good music school.

Within the music major forum [Music Major - College Confidential](Music Major - College Confidential Forums), do a title search on “music business”, and you’ll get a couple of pages of threads. You can also try “music industry”, which will bring up more.

The program titles can be confusing at different institutions. A good overview and another list is here <a href=“Music Industry,Business,Technolgy,Engineering - Music Major - College Confidential Forums”>Music Industry,Business,Technolgy,Engineering - Music Major - College Confidential Forums;

Manhattanville College offer Music Business. I know it isn’t as exciting as the Clive Davis Program at NYU, but NYU only accepts 22 candidates from an international pool. Even if you are extremly talented, just based on those stats, it could be a long shot. I know someone who went to Manhattanville as a second choice to NYU and it turned out to be a pretty good fit. The internships have been plentiful in NYC and the experiences have been great.
Berkley School of Music in Boston may be another great choice with that major.

James Madison University has a Music Industry major which might interest you. Check it out.

Wow, I didn’t even know they only accept 22 candidates. Now I feel like even more of a long shot, haha.

Do you know if it is possible to get accepted to the college but not into the Music Business Program if you specified it in your application?

University of Denver and American University both have excellent music business majors.

If you apply to the program and you don’t get in, then you don’t get into the school. You can apply to NYU college of arts and sciences as an undecided major, but you cannot transfer into the program. You would have to re-apply as a freshman. The curriculum starts freshman year…there are no transfers. You have a shot! Don’t give up. Just recognize with those stats it’s a long shot for everyone. Don’t take it personal if you don’t get in. The application process is quite extensive with the portfolio that needs to be submitted in addition to the common app and the app for Tisch. Give it a shot!
Good Luck!
