Does any of your kids graduated with Music Business degree and if so could you please share which college he/she attended, and also how successful were they in finding a job / internship in the industry? TIA
You might want to post this on the Music Major board, you might get more hits.
@FriscoMom - No direct experience. My DS is at Notre Dame. A senior in the music program did get an internship with an instrument manufacturer through school. I think he has been offered a job with the company. He used the connections in the music program to get ideas and seek out the internship. So, if your student is attending or planning to attend a school with Music Biz degree, they should have connections to help with finding internships.
Belmont has a music industry major.
Also take a look at Middle Tennessee State University for a highly regarded program .
Drexel has a music business degree with co-ops built into the program, so that students graduate with work experience in their field.
It’s uber-selective, but, … for a kid who really wants to be involved in the music biz… The Clive Davis Institute at NYU. Phenomenal program for motivated kids who are good at thinking outside the box. Their connections to the music industry are hard to beat.
Belmont, Lipscomb, MTSU all in Nashville have amazing programs and Nashville has a ton of internships available to college students for summers. Although most of those internships are unpaid in the summer, the students do make a lot of connections. Good luck!
Northeastern, Berklee, UMass Lowell in my area. Lots of schools have this. But I also think it is worth considering majoring in something broader: job skills in this career area can be picked up through jobs and internships.
The Syracuse Bandier program for music business is excellent and also highly selective. They accept 25 students per year, I believe.
Also, post on the music forum for more info.
