I'm interested in learning how to play the piano--I've played for about a year but am only self-taught off the internet haha.

After looking around online and the website for the Stanford music department, I can't really find the answers to my questions...

How much does it cost to enroll in the beginning piano class? Should I know how to read music? How competitive is it to enroll in the class? (I saw somewhere that preference is given to music majors which I will not be)

If I still can't find the answers to these questions, would it be too pushy to try and email the professor that teaches this class?

Thanks for the help!

I have a feeling that I read somewhere you can take lessons.

And if the beginning piano class has music majors in it, you should probably know how to read music. Because to be a music major, if I recall, you have to be able to read music, do some scales, and play a song or two, among other things. So it would be redundant to have music majors in a class that teaches one how to read music. This is all speculation, but yeah.

And I don’t think it would be too pushy to email these questions to a professor. You can probably get really good answers to all of them. It’s not like these questions take hours to answer. Maybe do a bit more searching first, though. Make sure the information you ask for isn’t the first result from a simple google search.

There are beginner piano classes that you can takeno experience necessary. They cost $400 if you are not a music major.
