Music Composition or Computer Science?

Hello,
Im a student who is currently in his second year of college. I have done well in my Computer Science courses so far but I just dont know if thats what I want to do with my life. Little background, I started playing guitar 5 years ago and became obsessed, fell in love with music, how its created and everything that has to do with it. Now being a sophomore I convinced myself I could do things in the music industry with my degree. However I just want to play music for a living or at least compose it. Am I being stupid? I understand that I am much more likely to make money with CS than music but it really is my life and I dont know what to do. Please any advice is appreciated because I feel like Im going down the wrong path and I dont even know if I can transfer as a Music major this late in the game. thanks

Music performance and composition are the kind of areas where it can take being an elite practicioner to earn a good living solely from doing that. Some CS knowledge may help you with a backup career while you pursue music as an extracurricular, or help get you into a position where you can pay the bills in a job where computing is applied to music.

Get the computer science degree. You can always take contracts to pay the rent when you need to and finance your music career. You don’t need to get a degree to have a music career. Or use the CS degree to get a gig at a music company and build your contacts while you get your reel together, etc.

Thanks for the reply!

Can you not do both courses side by side? I mean if you’re doing great with CS it’s probably best not to let go of that considering the demands for CS people even internationally. But if it is music that your heart is into then can you find a way to enrol in some classes which could possibly give you the credits and eventually the degree?
