In what way should a music student learn about copyright procedures or whatever paperwork is involved in protecting one’s musical creations? Is that a topic where it is typical not to learn about the process on your own, but to seek out a business person? Is it normal to take a college class? Or is self-study more typical? I imagine the Music Business majors learn about it in college, but where/when do the performance majors learn what to do?
Some straight performance programs are adding a music business class or two. Some people learn via the school of hard knocks. Some schools offer dual performance/business tracks.
This is something that D learned during a HS music composition summer program. She was a HS Junior when she registered her first copyright. It’s not all that complicated.
