whenever I feel very depressed or extremely sad I start listening to some music titles - mostly slow songs.

and I soon began to realize that it does indeed alleviate my sadness to an extent while I am listening to it.

It provides me with comfort to "upbring" my soul back in a neutral state. the best way I can put it.

So I was curious to those who get extremely sad and lonesome at times, if it's not music that you listen to, WHAT is it that you do to make you feel better?

i'm willing to hear others and how they cope with anxiety.

Music is not necessarily calm or soothing for me, but it makes me happy listening to good music. Making me feel better? Well, reading helps a lot... and talking to people. But I usuaslly just read if I'm down or anything like that.

I often listen to rocky bands like marilyn manson, papa roach, system, etc.. really really loud when I feel angry. When I'm sad, I like to listen to songs with meaningful lyrics like linkin park, trapt, etc.. (i know it's commercial and all). They soothe me.

If i'm really really angry, I take sleeping pills and go to sleep. I try to do that when I'm sad also but when I'm sad, I usually cant fall asleep because I think so much that my head hurts and yeah..

I hate eating food when I'm sad/angry.. it makes me feel worse because it reminds me of those people on movies, eating ice-cream and getting fat because they broke up with their boyfriend or something

yes... it basically does to me everything you said it does to you... except sometimes it can make me feel even worse... but i love music

how this is so true. i just realized this too. in fact, it --can-- make me feel worse if I listen to it with passion.

very true for me as well. like, i start listening to it, and it begins to make me feel a little better, but only for the time being......just like you say: "no lasting effect..." which totally sucks.
