I play the clarinet and am looking to major in music education! I have visited a few schools in Kansas as well as Indiana University and Vandercook.

BY FAR Vandercook was my favorite. And IU was way too big.

Does anyone have any suggestions on smaller music schools in or around the midwest? Preferrably some that offer good financial aid/scholarships. I'm looking for more of a university setting then a conservatory...

Thanks!

Suggest you look into Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. We visited with D in August open house, and we all loved it. Great school academically, small (1500), small class sizes, and a conservatory. All the ensembles. On my D’s short list. My D plays clarinet and sax, though she’s not interested in a conservatory, but would go to LU as a BA student. LU says it has 100% employment for Mus.Ed. grads. Campus is really pretty, town is across the street. Major airport 10 minutes drive from campus. New student center. Food is great.
