Music Education and Math Double Major

Hi everyone I'm (currently a junior) looking to do a double degree program involving music education and math. I'm a strong academic student (3.9 UW, 2320 SAT I, Rank 2 in my school, 800 Math II, 790 Bio, 800 Chem) and a good musician.
Senior Regions Band: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior
All State: Sophomore, Junior
Region Jazz: Sophomore, Junior
All State Jazz: Sophomore, Junior
What colleges would be a good fit for me?
So far I've looked at...
Johns Hopkins/Peabody
Rochester/Eastman
Oberlin/Oberlin Conservatory
Carnegie Mellon
Are there any other schools that you would recommend and what do you think of the schools I've listed?

Be sure to include a safety which has suitable academics in your majors, *and is affordable/i.

I believe Oberlin only offers a Masters in Music Education, not an undergraduate degree. you should browse the many threads on the Music Major Forum both for double degree pursuits, and music education. Many of the traditional double degree programs do not offer Music Ed. It is also usually recommended that you get your Ed degree in the state where you wish to teach.

Have you looked at Univ. of Michigan and Northwestern?

I am very interested in U Mich and Northwestern

Bump this up. I need more replies!

Have you posted this on the music majors’ forum? For a safety where you would likely receive merit money, look at Chapman. It was suggested to me by a mom who posts on the music majors’ forum. Don’t know if they have music ed though. Her son is doing a double degree with math and music. She said they have been very accommodating.

Case Western/Cleveland Institute of Music [CIM | College Studies](Joint Music Program)

Harvard/New England Conservatory [Harvard Department of Music](http://www.music.fas.harvard.edu/mmperformance.html)

For an academic super safety that will yield a good scholarship, University of Hartford/ Hartt School might be a good option. It probably will take more than 4 years though. Hartt is well known for its music education program. Several music ed gurus have been on the faculty over the years.

Most of the schools you listed will not allow (or will seriously discourage) double majoring for Music Ed
They all consider music ed to be a double major already and adding another is not usually allowed. Do come look around the music major forum to see more info on a lot of those schools.
