I really want to study music education and I'm looking at good music schools in Texas like TCU, Baylor, SMU, and Trinity. I'm also looking into Oklahoma University and Oklahoma City University for music education. I am very confident that I am academically attractive enough to be accepted to these schools. I would prefer to teach in Texas but I am OK with crossing the border and deserting my beloved Texas to get a degree.
My question is this: can I teach in Texas if my degree in music eduction is from Oklahoma? Will the certification transfer? This will save me many hours searching and applying to schools if I know where I should and should not go for a education degree.
Thank you!

I don’t know, but honestly I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Most likely if you get certified in one state, the certification probably won’t directly transfer to another state, but thats no big deal, you would just apply in the state that you want to teach. Go to the school that seems like it will fit you the best.

Most colleges will have someone who can tell you the differences, if any, between the state certifications, and they can probably guide you to taking care of the Texas requirments in addition to the OK requirements after you have enrolled.

Also, many states have alternate methods of becoming certified and there are more than one paths to the same certification.

Worse comes to worse is that you might recieve a temporary certification and you might have to take one or two or three more classes the summer between your first year teaching and your second.

Most of the time all you have to have to get certified straight out of college is X hours of education classes plus a passing grade on the Praxis I and Praxis II and a semester of student teaching. You should be able to look up online the exact requirements for both states and compare them on your own.
