Music education for flute?

Hi!

I'm looking to major in music education, but I'm a little worried because I've heard that flute is really competitive. I'm a pretty decent flute player with NYSSMA evaluation scores of 98 (level 6) and I've been accepted into area all state (but not conference all state) and
other regional groups. I am also a strong vocal student and have a relatively high gpa (97.6). I was just wondering if anyone out there could give me some general information about music education acceptance rates for flute players. Some of the schools I'm looking at are:

Hartt
SUNY Fredonia
SUNY Potsdam
Temple (Boyer school of music)
Ithaca
Boston University

Also, does anyone know anything about Mansfield, Nazereth, and/or Roberts Wesleyan? Since they are lesser known schools for music are they easier to get into? How good are the music ed programs?

I am going into Mus ed as a String player in violin, and auditioned at Hartt for Ed and sent in the tape for BU. Hartt is very competitive and I do urge you to visit your top choices, as I did not like Hartt at all for majoring in Ed and it seems the Ed majors are treated differently there as opposed to the Performance majors. BU is a very ,very competitive, even for Ed majors. It is a great school for all the opportunities and faculty members, though. I am not sure about other schools. I can say a word about Roberts: do think about which (if any) cities you would want to be near to; it seemed to be slightly isolated and I am not sure of the strength of the program as opposed to, say, BU or the others schools. Best of luck with choices! Mus Ed is a very rewarding field.
