Music Education in PA

Hi! I'm new to this forum, so if this is not in the right place to post I'm sorry. Anyway, I am a sophomore in high school, and I'd really like to be a high school chorus teacher whenever I'm older. I had a few questions about going to school for music education

*I would like to stay in PA in case of family emergencies and stuff, possibly NY. My main 2 choices are Slippery Rock University and Clarion University, but I am willing to look into others.
*What do auditions usually require? My audition skills aren't the best, so I am still hoping I could get in.
*If experience is something you need to know then you can take time to read this, if not, skip it:
-Chorus 5th grade-present
-Select choir Girl's ensemble is chorus in 9th-10th grade
-Select choir in Junior High (7th-8th grade)
-Voice lessons 8th grade-present
-Select touring church choir 9th grade-present
-Musicals including: Bye Bye Birdie, Gypsy, Annie, possibly South Pacific
-Piano 9th grade-present, may not be able to continue
*I may be auditioning for a performing arts school for 11th-12th grade, but I'm not fully sure (I'm not very confident because my choir teacher tortures everybody)
*I have jaw cartilage problems (stupid orthodontic stuff) and I may need surgery, and I'm hoping it won't affect me forever, so if anybody happens to know about this they could let me know.

Those are my questions, so feel free to answer. Thanks!

Indiana University of PA is where most music educators from Pittsburgh attend. From what I understand, it is considered a very good education for the $.

In Pennsylvania, Gettysburg and Susquehanna both have music programs, and I understand West Chester is also good. Don’t know much about vocal, though, sorry.

Normally the audition consists of several parts. You’ll have to read the requirements for each school and its a good idea to track them in a spreadsheet or grid for quick reference. You always come prepared with 2 or 3 songs with contrasting styles & tempos. You’ll do some sight singing and maybe some ear training exercises. You might also take a written music theory exam. Your private music teacher should help you get ready.

The audition is largely the same for music ed and performance, but the weighting is different. The audition is weighted heavily for performance and academics play a more prominent role in music ed.

In PA, you could also look at music ed programs at UPenn, Temple/Boyer and UArts.
