Music Festival Master List

Hot Springs is a two or three weeker, as is Shenandoah Performs (prepro, which was on hiatus summer '07).

I'm looking at my list here--most from the summer list you generated earlier this year!

There's a program on a Kibbutz in Israel:
Music in the Valley
[url=http://www.jamd.ac.il/Article.php?TopID=45&CatID=&SubCatID=&ArticleID=1088&Preview=1]

Wow, so much for cut-and-paste email addresses!

Music in the Valley is on Kibbitz Mizra in the Jezreel Valley, through the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. Hopefully you can Google it and then find the "English" translation button.

Has anyone done one of the 2-week sessions at Tanglewood (i.e. Clarinet Workshop, etc.)?

Clarimom, welcome.

I'm not sure if you'll get an answer within, but the last 2 year's of summer programs is basically concentrated in toeo threads:

If you do an advanced search (in this forum), type "summer" as your criteria, and click the "search titles only", it'll come up with over two pages of prior summer program posts.

Hi Clarimom,
I went to the bass workshop at Tanglewood 4 times.

I take it you enjoyed it then since you kept going back :-) Did you also do orchestra?

cosmos - could you share some thoughts about the the NSO program?

For the first two years that I did the BUTI workshop I did different programs afterwards, but for the second two years I did the orchestra which was really fun. Both programs were great & had great faculty. I'm glad I was able to go for so many years... Definitely extremely useful repertoire experience.

As far as NSO goes, it was a great program. I had a lot of fun. The rooming situation was terrific, the repertoire was good (esp Mahler 1), my teacher was fantastic, and the orchestra and chamber programs were great. I wasn't crazy about the conductor, but she was alright in general. I'm glad I was able to go and I had a really great time in general... Met a lot of cool kids and had some great lessons! Also got to do the solo in Mahler which was a great experience.

My daughter also went to the 2-week bass workshop at Tanglewood, and enjoyed it. She must have been there one of the years that Cosmos did the workshop but not the orchestra, being the only female in the bass section that year.

Does anyone know anything about the UBS Verbier Orchestra auditions? Are all auditions required to be live, or do they ever accept DVD/CD auditions? Also, by any chance does anyone know if auditions are held in Chicago?

Thanks.

UBS pulled their funding Don't bank on your sponsors

I was unable to find a link for a 2009 season. If anybody else has info, please post it.

Thanks, cosmos. I'm glad you had such a great experience!

Scary about the Verbier orchestra as this is one of the best summer orchestra programs in the world for young performers. I hope they are able to get a new funding source!

This is the link I found for the Verbier Orchestra (no reference to UBS) 2009 - no dates, but an offer to let you know in September (around the corner!). They say auditions will take place in early 2009. Fingers crossed they don't cancel it!!

Verbier Festival - Auditions

Marrowstone Music Festival
Location: Bellingham, WA
Open to: All instruments
Website: Marrowstone - A Summer Orchestra & Chamber Music Program for Young Musicians

Has anyone given any thought to applications for next summer?

My festival here in Switzerland is nearly finished, and now I am already thinking about next summer. My list so far is this:

1 Youth Orchestra of the Americas
2 Banff Centre
3 Lucerne Academy
4 Tanglewood
5 Orford Centre
6 Zermatt

I am trying to find some short ones to apply to considering that I need to work most of next summer, but YOA and Tanglewood are too cool to not apply to. I might apply for Verbier too but it depends on what the audition repertoire is and if they accept DVD/CD auditions... I cannot take time away from school to do a live audition.

Cosmos, Hot Springs is a two or three weeker, and the Chamber Institute @ UNL is a one week small ensemble/chamber focus. UNL is a freebie, Hot Springs you must pay meals, maybe for room as well; I can't recall but info is on the website.

I was invited back for Zermatt this summer shortly after it ended without audition! This makes me very happy. I am still applying for other things though, just because there are a lot of good opportunities out there. Here is my list, anyone else care to share theirs?

Lucerne, Banff, Tanglewood, Norfolk, Youth Orchestra of the Americas, Yellow Barn, Domaine Forget, Orford.

I might try out for Verbier, too, but they haven't posted the bass rep yet.

^It's always great to have one guaranteed spot at the outset. Congrats.

You must add Quartet Program, directed by Charles Castleman of the Eastman School. It is a small, close knit, and fabulous experience for ages 15 until about 22. Not free, though. You can attend for 3,4,or 7 weeks.
