Music Festival Master List

alohagail,

out of curiosity - who was your son? I was a pianist at Tanglewood this summer too -

Were you in the second session?

I was one of the double-session kids and I was also the orchestral pianist, so I was there for all 6 weeks -

My son, who played Petrushka, says hello!!

Aspen’s piano faculty was reduced (by 3) for the coming summer, so it will be more competitive this year; but they generally do take a number of high-school age students. Aspen has undergone some disruptive changes - including cutting faculty, reducing the number of students, shortening the program by a week, and the recent sudden (and unexplained) resignation of Alan Fletcher, it’s CEO for the past 3 years. (see this article: <a href=“Aspen Music Festival CEO steps down”>Aspen Music Festival CEO steps down) But it is a great program for pianists, in terms of strength of faculty and performance opportunities for well-motivated students. Because Music Academy of the West has such a small faculty, it would be rare for a high-school age student to be admitted. Eastern Music Festival is set up similarly to Aspen, but is geared more to younger students, so it might be a great alternative for a high school-aged pianist. They have regular faculty and guest faculty every summer, offering master classes.

alohagail,

hahaha I know exactly who he is! =) Tell him the hungarian rhapsody 6 girl says hi too! Miss him and tanglewood both -

How has this thread been around so long with nobody posting this one?

My S attended the Oberlin Trumpet summer institute for 2 summers and loved it. He came home inspired and with a new work ethic towards warming up and good practice habbits. The town is great in the summer and the trumpet students were friendly and supportive. S is currently studying with Roy Poper at Oberlin and is very happy.

Thanks, Borntoplay. Waited two months for a response!

We’re also looking at the Eastman Summer Jazz Studies program now.

These would be a step up for us, but, I guess that’s how it should be.
