Music Industry Concentration

So it seems that we have a bunch of people here who were accepted into the Music Industry program (including me!)

I think we should have our own thread to discuss the program, since it is so unique.

When I visited the campus, I met with the director (Leon Janikan) and he told me that many people also minor in Business, since you only have to take 2 additional classes (7 total, but 5 are included in Music Industry). Not sure if that means per year, per semester....

Does anyone know if it's possible to double major in Music Industry and Business? If it's at all possible, I definitely want to do that. Also, do people go on from this major to graduate (MBA) school? I will be in the honors program, so if I work really hard and finish NU with a high GPA, do I have a shot at getting into a good MBA school (e.g. Stern, Columbia, Kellogg, Booth)?

So who here is accepted into the Music Industry program? The usernames that I spotted so far are itshay617, adambedford, maine930, and ssreels.

MBA admissions is very random at the top schools. If you take advantage of NEUs resources you certainley will have an opportunity to get into top MBA schools. I personally know a student who was accepted into harvard business school 2+2 program. You can also find many alumni that went onto top b schools.

But were these people in the NU Music Industry program?

hey!

I really like the look of this program and I’m also considering minoring in Business.

I’m actually considering going onto law school after this, but maybe to do a JD/MBA and I’m also curious as to what chances will be available at top graduate school upon graduation.

Also, congrats everyone for getting into this great program!

I’m on the ropes between minoring in marketing vs. business but i think that i will eventually lean towards business.

ahhhh im so excited to go to neu!!!

are you all definitely going?

and since we are in music industry, what kind of music are you all into?

Applying regular decision for MB, wish me luck!
…And I was hoping to minor in graphic design…

It means 2 more classes in your whole time at Northeastern. :)

Only 2 more classes and that will be enough for a minor in business?!

I think I’ll be definitely doing that!

And…good luck @fittedhats!

are you all gonna visit or re-visit campus again on feb. 19 for the open house sort of thing?

" are you all gonna visit or re-visit campus again on feb. 19 for the open house sort of thing? "

I will almost definitely. There’s actually a concert that I want to catch in Boston, but it’s the 13th, so I might even make a week-long stay out of it, I’m not quite sure yet.

oh nice! which show?

“oh nice! which show?”

Tegan and Sara :stuck_out_tongue: . They played 2 shows in NYC in October, but I missed them, and now their huge North American tour has skipped NYC. Boston on 2/13, Philly on 2/16. I’m still hoping that they add an NYC date when it gets closer, but it’s not guaranteed. I’m still considering just driving down to Philly for the show on the 16th, which is a 2 hour drive for me.

I was planning on coming over in April 'cos I thought that was when all the ‘Admitted Students’ events were. Is it only in Feb then at Northeastern or do they have something going on in April as well as a last attempt to get students to enroll?

^The February Admitted Students days are for students who were accepted EA. The ones in April are for those who were accepted RD.

Will I be OK to go to the one in April even though I was admitted EA?

^I have no idea, sorry! I’m sure you can e-mail someone @ NU to find out :)

So one of my top choices for the music industry major school is, as you may have probably guessed, Northeastern. I don’t really have a good GPA (like a 3.3-3.4 cumalative) but I have a LOT of extracurriculars (music related: playing and testing for piano, having played for a church orchestra, and being part of a dancing choir non-profit performing company) and a pretty decent SAT score (1950). Are my chances of getting into the music industry major really slim? I know this isn’t the place to ask this kind of question, but I thought you guys would know best since you all got in. Thanks, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi everyone! I got accepted during Early Action as a Music Industry major as well. I haven’t decided if I’m going yet though.

To worriedkimg13: I had about the same GPA as you and a lot of extracurriculars (piano/voice, ice hockey, lacrosse, student council, etc). I applied with my ACT (31). Hope that helps!
