Ok, I've kind of been looking into getting a summer internship.

I want an option for music. Is there anything out there? I play wind instruments, and that's what I want my focus to remain in...

Any thoughts/ideas/etc.?

The Kennedy Center in Washington DC has an internship program. I don't think it's instrumental in nature - management, audio, etc. It is well established, but I think it's not a "summer" program per se, but instead an academic internship of sorts. You could check their website.

Chatauqua Festival has internships for audio.

Those are the ones that come to mind.

Depends on how you define internship, and what exactly you want to get out of it. Are you looking for a "behind the scenes" position involved with public relations, operational/logistics, general office, go-fer type, or do you mean an actual opportunity to play and or teach?

There are some options for all types out there, but not many.

Check the summer "free programs" thread. Some of the summer festivals (Spoleto, Hot Springs possibly Grant Park & others come to mind) have internships in the office, ushering, facilities, go-fer areas, as do some of the mid and small sized paid pro orchestras.

If you're defining internship as a non-paid position as a player/performer, or with instruction/coaching you're basically limited to the full scholarship festival type opportunities, with stiff competition from conservatory level, grad students, and emerging pros.

Some of the camp type facilities geared to the younger kids offer paid/stipend based coaching or counselor type jobs for high school/college aged kids.

hello musicallylatin, you don't say how old you are, or whether you are hoping for a paid internship, but depending on your age and willingness to volunteer your time, there are many possibilities for internships at summer music festivals and at music camps.

Ditto the questions asked by others. Here are a couple of suggestions, which may or may not work for you. The New York Youth Symphony (Manhattan) offers paid internships: New York Youth Symphony. The Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts (Long Island) offers paid internships: Usdan - Job Opportunities. Interlochen Arts Camp (Michigan) has music-related jobs: Interlochen :: About Interlochen :: Summer Camp
