How hard is it to get into UMich for flute performance? Have tons of orchestra/chamber exp. private lessons/summer programs/region&state exp, etc. Academics-top 10 in class, gp-4.0..just so so sat(not great test taker), community helper, etc. Advice?

I have a son who is a Jr. performance major at Michigan in a different woodwind studio. But he says that the flute studio is phenomenal and that everyone loves Amy Porter. Your audition is most important, but your application (grades, scores, ref.) has to meet the minimum standards of the university. Lots of playing opportunities (2 orchestras, 2 bands and smaller chamber ensembles). But most important for your career is to choose the teacher that will be best for you. Schedule a lesson with Amy Porter and if you feel it is a good fit then apply.
