Does anyone have any feedback at all about music majors? D is almost certain she is going to U of I for music because of the teacher.
Thanks!

my son also just got in and wants to major in music. how did it work out?

My daughter is in her second semester and loves it! What instrument does your son play? The flute professor is the reason why d is at Iowa, and why Iowa was one of her two top picks! Even with the brutal winter, she feels it is the place for her to be. She keeps extrememly busy, with two gen ed classes in the morning, then music the rest of the day. She is a member of band and orchestra with seminar, technique and lessons filling the rest of her day. We fell in love with the campus even though it is 1000 miles from home, and we have to agree with d about the professor…she is amazing.
Please, if you have any questions, ask! I will be more than happy to let you know anything I know!!!

Thanks! s plays the saxophone and I know they have a great department. He is also interested in creative writing so fo course Iowa is the best for that too. My one question right now, is what about the dorms? We are submitting the dorm application this weekend and I really don’t know much about them and haven’t been to the campus yet (we live far from IA also). All new territory for us.

Hello! As far as dorms, we would highly recommend living in the performing arts community which will be housed in Burge next year. Burge has been newly renovated and also houses one of the cafeterias. D questioned whether to live in the performing arts living and learning community, but is glad that she did. She is with other performers, so practicing in your room is fine! There is a floor of guys and a floor of girls. Burge is centrally located. Nice dorm. All the dorms were very nice. D is in the dorm next door, Currier. That is where they housed the performers this year.
You will see on the housing application where you can request living and learning community. I would highly recommend that. If d stays in a dorm next year she will live in the community again.

I hope you have the chance to visit the campus. It really won us over!

Please let me know of any other questions. Is your son definately attending Iowa next year?

He is still not sure, he just found out he got some scholarship money at a dif school as well. It is a tough choice. I think he is trying to figure out what to do. He is going next week to Iowa for the audition so he will see the campus, which looks really great on the photos and videos I have seen online. We will apply to Burge, I think, too, thanks for all this information.

That would be great let us know what you think of the campus/city and the school in general.
