Would a dual degree in vocal performance and math be possible at Carnegie Mellon (4 or 5 years)?

To clarify, I know their website says you can dual/double degree, but I am looking for feedback from those who have or know something about how it has worked out trying to do both degrees. Thanks!

When my son looked at CMU four years ago, it was specifically about a dual degree/dual major in vocal performance and another major (not math). The head of the music department said that it would not be possible and when I suggested that perhaps it could be done in five years instead of four, she shot that idea down too. Maybe it has changed in the last four years, but it was impossible then.

D applied last year, and as I recall dual degrees ARE do-able. You do have to apply to all the different schools separately, so there would be a possibility of getting into one school/major but not the other.

It would be best to call them. The best go-to person there is Michele McGregor in the school of music. You should probably find out about applying dual at the outset vs applying to just one major then adding the second after you get there. Michele could also likely put you in touch with people who have done or are doing dual majors.

My son is applying this year as a double performance major/composition major but that is a double within one school.

Thanks for the comments!
