i was wondering if any current mudders could shed some light on opportunities to play music and learn new instruments while at mudd. specifically, i would like to know if the student music club (jam society i think?) has instruments that anyone can use; i would like to take up drumming in college, but it's a bit of a hassle because there is no space in dorms for drums. and also, i was wondering if anyone took guitar or drum lessons at neighboring colleges and had any input on how private lessons work for mudders. thanks in advance!

Hi there,
I play percussion. The jam society has a drumset and amps for member use. Becoming a member is really easy as you only have to sign up and agree to respect the equipment. There is also the jazz improv class here at HMC (I'm in that too) which has its own drumset and equipment. In addition, there are performance classes at Scripps and Pomona for percussion, I believe.

Anyways, while you'll be working hard you can find some time to break away and jam with buds or even take classes in music.

(Oh, and as of this last year there are music practice rooms in the student center. There are three rooms with three pianos and two guitars...and until I move them, my congas)

Hope that helps
