Music performance at Columbia?

i completely agree, that's why musicians rocks. btw, have you played schumann's 6th, i think? It's the piece where the 2nd movement is crazy for the 1st violins. And the rachmaninoff, how did you handle the last movement? My conductor conducted it at 176 i think, so the first time i could only follow along blindly, as i had practiced it at 154.

um.... sethblue... one thing you should know about me is i like to practice "blending" the art of playing every other note to conspicuously stay at the right speed... as for the rach... oh god, guest conductor from the liebsbaum philharmonic i think, took it at 188 to the dotted quarter? crazy... never played schumann's 6th heard it tho

sorry, i don't understand, you like to do what with every other note to noticeably remain at the right speed? As for 188 for the third movement and dotted quarters too...CRAZY!

oh... well i'm not a virtuoso, so i can't play THAT fast... so sometimes i'll play every other note in the right time, it sounds like i'm playing, but i'm actually only playing half the notes!

understandable. i did the same for the first rehearsal of the rachmaninoff. 188...CRAZY!

don't u hate guest conductors?

yea i do. I played william tell once with a guest conductor and what can i say except that it was Crazy.

LOL Schumann only wrote 4 symphonies. Cujoe, did you dream hearing the 6th one?

sorry, i can't remember the number, yet i played it just two concerts ago. I think it was the 2nd.

perhaps... but then again, i have a large collection of lps from my grandfather... maybe he wrote a 6th one that we all never heard... but em ;) lol... nah, just instinct cuz i've heard most of these pieces that my response is "probably heard it" GOD i really should go to sleep

What key was it in? Probably C Major, the 2nd. That one sounds crazy for violin 1 in the second movement.

i'm a night hawk, can't sleep until like 2am every night, but then in the morning, i can't wake up. Anyone else like that?

I love the morning too much. It hurts me to sleep through it. So I've been setting my alarm over break for like 9 or 9:30. It's time for me to go to bed, too.

good night..lol

actually after i signed off i had a night session of mendelssohn's third... my recital song... trying to pick an encore, really thinkin about scherzo and tarentelle by weiniawski

that's a tricky piece, tarantelle. The only piece i've played by wieniawski
is obertass, porb one of his easiests.

oh... i just listened to menuhin's paganini concerto in d minor, and sarah changs paganini no 1... simply amazing!

i dont know ppl like wieniawski's tarantelle...i played it for 2 months and i hated it sooo much...the tune gets really annoying

i feel bad whenever i play in quick get-together orchestras (like districts, all state) because i always fake lol... i know its not good but i cant help it =/

why do you feel fake? i love playing in orchestras.

yes... i think shostakovich means "blending"=fake haha, we all have euphamisms to cover up our shortcomings
